The Strange Strife of the Smelly Socktopus is the ninth episode of season 1 of The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants.
Synopsis[]
Erica uses her suspension as a chance to prank George and Harold by comparing it to a vacation, something that causes jealousy for the two boys, and they soon try to get suspended. But, that doesn't mean they don't have to hurry if they want to stop the Socktopus, which was brought to life by the evil portion of Krupp's evil cologne.
Summary[]
As George and Harold were running to school, they saw Erica on vacation. She told them she was suspended, when she was actually on vacation, so they tried to get suspended like Erica. Later, they were in Mr. Krupp's office and they asked him for a sneak preview of their expulsion by suspending them now. His brain cells were talking about George and Harold getting suspended and Paranoid Krupp says no, which makes the original Krupp say no to the suspension as well. In the washer room, Mr. Krupp yelled at Mr. Meaner for stinky gym socks as the students were handing them out here. Meanwhile, George and Harold message Mr. Krupp that there is pizza from the Piqua Pizza Palace is his car for being great, so Krupp decided to search in his car, but this was a prank, so to no avail.
After the boys put all the socks in his office, they decided to hide in his closet for 3 hours. Inside, they make a comic book called Captain Underpants and the Smelly Socktopus. When they went to the cafeteria for Taco Tuesday, they got sent to Krupp’s office, where he yelled at them for the car pizza prank, but the three saw Socktopus kidnap Miss Anthrope and Mr. Meaner, and soon, he kidnaps Krupp. Shocked by this, the boys went to the basement and find out that’s Krupp’s toupee polish was the reason the all the socks that were piled up and cursed with it, meaning that they were evil. They find Socktopus with a plate of tacos, so they dried up Krupp and turned him into Captain Underpants to battle Socktopus.
The three escapes, and the boys tell Captain Underpants to get a giant shoe at the mini golf, but Captain Underpants got a giant windmill instead. They saw a soap commercial on Ms. Anthrope’s computer, so they get the soap and put it in the pool to defeat Socktopus. After Captain Underpants defeated Socktopus, Melvin was still in the swimming pool, calling for help, but when Captain Underpants tried to save him, Socktopus pulled them into the pool, turning Captain Underpants back into Mr. Krupp. After this, Mr. Krupp suspended George and Harold and their parents made them mow the law with their hands as punishment. Erica told them that she pranked them by saying that being suspended is terrible, but she does give them ice cream, in which they enjoyed.

- Both Nat Faxon and John DiMaggio star together in Matt Groening's Disenchantment, another Netflix original series that debuted in 2018.
- When Socktopus is defeated, he says "what a world," which was the last thing that the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz said before she melted.
- The scene where we go inside Krupp's mind and see his humanoid emotions might be a parody of the Pixar film Inside Out.
- Besides George and Harold, Melvin and Erica are the only characters to not be kidnapped by Socktopus.
- At the end of the episode, the boys get suspended, only to mow the lawn with their hands.
- It is unknown whether or not Erica got grounded for pulling a suspended prank on George and Harold.
- The title of chapter 2, "Pranks But No Pranks," is a parody of the phrase "thanks, but no thanks."
- The title of chapter 3, "Pulling Out All The Socks," is a parody of the phrase "pulling out all the stops."
- The title for the 5th chapter, "It's a Hard Knock Spice," is a parody of the song "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the musical/movie/school play Annie.
- The title of chapter 7, "Hook, Line, And Stinker," is a parody of the phrase "hook, line, and sinker."
- The title of chapter 8, "Day of Reekening," is a parody of the phrase "day of reckoning."
- When Captain Underpants plays a quick game of mini putt, he loses and complains in a voice similar to Mr. Krupp's.
